Sparrow pranced up to the dens. He sniffed around the area where he normally chose from the empty dens and turned around, waiting for Exx. He'd come back to the dens with her because the black female had said that she was very tired while they were out playing. He tilted his head to the side a bit as he scanned the nearby trees for his new friend.
"How far ahead of her did I get. I didn't think it was this far..." he thought as a few more minutes passed. Perhaps she'd stopped to drink from a puddle of melted snow or maybe she was trying to sneak up on her again. He sat outside an empty den, his head slowly moving back and forth as he scanned the area for Exx.

Ex padded up behind Sparriw slowly. She yawned, her mouth opening widely to display her deadly teeth. She licked her lips and smiled wearily at Sparrow. She plodded up to him, her head not held as high as usual and the tips of her ears drooping. She wagged her tail slowly as she neared her friend.
The den was warm, and the floor seemed comfortable. Exx was thankful for Sparrow and his kindness. Without him, she'd be ever so lonely. She yawned again and blinked slowly, swaying as she walked. She lay down beside where he sat and grinned up at him. She got rather delirious when she was this exhausted.
"Hoooiiii." She wrinkled her nose and sat up briefly to give him a nudge on the cheek, but in her current state of drunken-like exhaustion, she let herself slip and planted a soft lick on his flaxen-colored fur. Not realizing the effect of her actions, she lay back down beside him and dozed off.

Sparrow nodded to her in greeting when he finally spotted the black females. He smiled slightly as she lay next to him. His eyes widened slightly and he looked down at her after he recieved the lick on his cheek.
"M-maybe you should take a quick nap. Like you said, you're tired and you've had a long day," he said, stammering slightly at the beginning and blinking a couple times. He told himself that she was just acting like that because she was tired. Some wolves got loopy when they were tired and he guessed Exx was one of them. His fur grew slightly warm and if he didn't have fur he would have been blushing.

Exx drifted off into a deep, comfortable sleep, dreaming of the coming Spring: butterflies, the return of the herds, pups. She dreamed of her own pups. Someday, she thought. Someday.
A dark silhouette sits on a hill, ears perked straight up and tail wagging. Brilliant emerald green eyes watch over three smaller animals, all of them mini versions of their mother, except for one, who was rather chubby and a light brown color with brown eyes. The mother grinned. Beside her stood the proud father, his strong muscular body covered in thick, silken fur. But when Exx looked at his face, it was blurry.
When she woke up, she couldn't remember what color he had been and what his body looked like. But she was happy, for she hadsuch a pleasant dream of what she hoped her future would become.

Sparrow had fallen asleep shortly after Exx had and he was laying, curled up with his side lightly brushing hers. When she woke up, he was still in a light sleep with his ears or paws twitching occasionally. He was having a typical Sparrow dream of playing with his friends or chasing something, but then again, he never really dreamed about something different.
Suddenly his eyes shot open as if he had sense that Exx was awake now. He didn't of course, but nonetheless, he sat up and yawned before glancing over at her with a friendly smile. "Did you sleep well?" he asked, standing and then lowering his chest to the ground in a stretch.

Exx blinked the sleep out of her evergreen eyes. The cavewas warm and dark, comforting like her mother's den. Exx smiled, genuinely happy for the second time since she came to Dancing Stars. The first was playing and romping about in the fresh Spring grass with Sparrow. He made her feel so carefree and safe. She nodded,
"Mmhm." Shaking her head to wake herself up, Exx sat up, towering over Sparrow. She had been wanting to ask him a question ever since they met, and it had been bothering her all day yesterday. "Sparrah, how many years have you lived?" Suddenly, Exx wanted to know everything about him, from his favorite prey, to where he was born and what his family was like. She yeanred to know it all, to know him better than herself. But then again, the ebony she-wolf's thirst for knowledge was insatiable.

"Good," Sparrow said and nodded after he'd finished stretching and sat down. He looked over to her, seeming to be caught off guard by her question. He thought for a while, trying to remember.
"I've begun to lose track," he admitted sheepishly and then thought for another short moment. "I'd say around three or four years," he said after his silence. He looked back at Exx, his eyes flashing as they caught the light coming in through the entrance of the den. "And how about you?" he asked curiously.
He allowed his front paws to slide forward until he was laying down again. He was in a sort of comfortable mood and it helped having another wolf to sit and relax with. Especially ifthat other wolf was Exx. Even though he was looking at the entrance of the den, his ears were angled so he could catch her reply when she made it.

Exx smiled. He was her age. She wrinkled her nose as her tail begun to wag happily. She got to her feet, stretching the muscles in her body as she did every morning. She stifled a yawn and sat back down beside her flaxen-hued friend. They looked like yin and yang, dark and light. But Exx's soul was anything but dark.
"Well, I never lose count." She grinned, tilting her head. "This Spring marks the third anniversary of my birth." She nudged her friend under the chin gently. "I think this Spring also marks my first opportunity, as a she-wolf, to bring my own pups into the world." At the thought of pups, Exx's heart seemed to flutter and her tummy did cartwheels inside of her. She puffed out her black, fluffy chest proudly and her nose twitched cutely. She was very excited for Midnight and Caerwyn's coming litter, and also for Pranta's little ones to fill the Dancing Stars land with the pitter-patter of little paws. She wondered, though, when it would be her turn.

Sparrow nodded slightly and smiled. "So you've never had pups before?" he asked quietly, looking at her. He found himself smiling again. She looked so adorable with her chest puffed out and her nose twitching. She must really want pups, he thought and sighed softly. He hoped she found a male she liked enough to have pups with, though it probably wouldn't be him. It never was. Females always saw him as the goofy friend, but he didn't mind. He wasn't in any rush to father his own pups anyways.
"So, I know you just recently joined the pack and all, but, do you have any particular male in mind this spring?" he asked curiously. He looked away from the entrance of the den and over to Exx before giving a huge yawn and shaking his head to completely wake himself up.

Exx shook her fur. She thought about his question and tilted her head, ears flopping about comically. How many three-year olds have already had pups? Was she that late?
"Uhm...no. I'm pretty sure I've never been able to have pups before this Spring. I can feel things changing inside of me now, and the drive to be a mother is more apparent than ever." As she pondered the concept, that new feeling that came from deep within her belly started to act up. She lay down beside her friend and looked up at him with her dazzling twin emeralds.
"And uhm...I may have someone in mind, what about you? Do you have a special female in your life?" She giggled and nudged his soft, furry belly with her snout, attempting to throw him off balance a little.

Sparrow nodded slowly. "Yes, I suppose that makes sense," he said, shrugging slightly. "That makes sense," he repeated and looked down at his paws.
"I guess you could say that I do," he said slowly, glancing up at her with what could have been called a puppy dog pout before looking back at the landscape outside the den. He kind of zoned out and so he was easily toppled over when she nudged his belly. He gave a soft and surprised whine and blinked a couple times before he realized what just happened and laughed.
He wound up on his side with one of his front paws hovering in the air as if ready to strike. He gave a contented sigh as he lay his head on the dirt and extended his hovering leg to gently push Exx's shoulder. "Alright, you got me.You win," he said, laughing agian.

Exx smiled weakly, wondering greatly who Sparrow's mystery femme was. She was tempted to ask, but she held her tongue. She didn't want to be disappointed again. She looked to the mouth of the cave; the sunlight was filtering through brilliantly and made the scene seem ethereal. Exx longed to go romp in the fresh spring grass and wet her fur with the dew that colected on the stalks each night. She tilted her head, looking at Sparrow quizzically.
"Well I'm glad. Do you think you will be expecting your own pups this Spring?" She grinned, though she felt slightly jealous of this she-wolf, the identity of whom she was unsure. Though young, Exx felt she would be a good mother, and she knew Sparrow would do his best to be a good father to whomever's pups he chose to sire. The ebony fae looked down at her paws, kind of wishing that she was the one Sparrow was talking about. Why do I want to be her? Exx's eyes widened suddenly. Do I...love Sparrow?

Sparrow rolled over so he was laying on his belly again and sat up, looking at Exx with a soft expression. "Pardon me if I'm prying, but I'm just curious. Who is your special someone?" he asked, his ears twitching quizzically. Hope flared in his belly for a moment but he quickly ignored it.
He didn't want to get his hopes high only to have them dashed against the rocks moments later. He guessed that shed probably wouldn't tell him and even if she did, it probably wasn't going to be him. He blinked in surprise and then looked over at Exx. He'd only known her for a few days, so why was he hoping she was thinking of him. He rolled back onto his side and angled his head so he could still watch Exx as he waited for her to speak again.

Exx lounged lazily on the den floor, but when she heard his question, she bolted upright. Panicking, she decided to play it cool. Or as cool as she could get.
"Well," she began, wondering what the hell she was going to say. Was she going to tell him? What if he didn't like her back? "He's very handsome." She thought for a moment and continued. "He's also very thoughtful, considerate, kind, and very playful." Exx beamed, thinking of their short time together and how happy Sparrow made her.

Playful... Sparrow gave her sort of a funny look at the mention of that attribute. Maybe it was him! He was very playful, then again, there were others in the pack that were playful as well. He sighed and lay his head back down on the dirt. "He sounds like a fine wolf," he said. "I wish you luck with him." He wasn't sure if he could be described with the words she'd given and he was trying to think up ways that he could be described that way.
He found it difficult to do so, though, because of his low self esteem. He looked back and her and nodded. "The female I'm thinking of, she's very pretty," he said almost wistfully. "She's pretty smart and she's fun to be around." He nodded, dragging the side of his face through the dust as he did so.
