He had puked up food last night. His stomach had been bothering him. He wondered if he was sick. When he woke up this morning, however, he realized that his bellyache was gone and he felt much better. But it was a shame that his spirits weren't lifted by the good news.
He had climbed Half Moon Mountain leisurely, taking the time to listen to the birds in the far distance and to let the wind ruffle his fur. He loved to feel wind piercing through his thick hairs. Sometimes he liked to close his eyes and pretend that he was flying through the skies, like a hawk. When he was way up on the mountaintop, it usually worked. Toboe felt like he could fly up here.
The air was a bit cooler here, too. He wasn't panting anymore from his hike; another nice thing about himself was that he was in shape. Training with Malo probably helped him out with that, too. He sucked in a deep, deep breath, and exhaled the crisp waste. There wasn't tons of room to run around here, but he felt comfortable. He lay on his side and began to flail his body agains the dirt, rolling over on his back a couple of times. For some reason, rolling in the soft dirt and pebbles of the mountain felt good to do. He knew he wasn't the only creature who did strange things like this; he once saw a bear rubbing its behind across the rough bark of a tree. Another time he had spied a buck deer scraping its antlers on pretty much everything sharp.
He wasn't too odd. He loved who he was, where he lived, the friends and family he had. They accepted him, even if he did like to roll around in the dirt atop Half Moon Mountain.
When he sat up, he looked around for a few minutes, lost in deep thought. Dancing Stars' home sure had become beautiful since the lake was dug out. They were truly making this land their own. The thought made him smile for a quick moment, but then he sighed and lay back down on his belly, falling to one side and just lying there, comfortably, staring at the clouds that touched the mountains that stood far, far, so far away.

Soft fur ruffling in the breeze which whispered past him, Haine strolled up Half Moon Mountain with a large smile on his features. He'd just been courting a lovely young female when he realised she had a mate, so he'd skedaddled off again. He may be a flirt but he wasn't a homewrecker, right?
He realised very quickly that his incredibly offensive personality actually made him very defensive. Obviously, offense in the best defence and luckily no one seemed to had figured him out yet. There was still time. He wondered maybe whether he should make a friend. Maybe it was worth it?
Frowning, he realised he stumbled upon a fellow male, Toboe, who appeared to be rolling in the dirt and pebbles. Haine didn't find this odd at all, in fact when he was bored and alone a good roll in the dirt was an effective waste of time.
Smiling, eyes shining with the thought of company, he didn't even mind that there was no female to flirt with. Maybe he should get some male bonding in? Chuckling inwardly, he sat down.
"Hello there," he smiled welcomingly, although hardly apologetic for disturbing the fellow canine.

Toboe hardly noticed Haine much at all, but the stocky-framed male sat slowly up, glancing blankly towards the half-stranger. He'd normally greet another wolf with a bright eyes, a huge smile, and all but irritating banter, but he felt too tired and preoccupied to really be himself. He lifted a back leg and scratched away the dirt that had stuck to his cheek. "Mm. Hey," Toboe replied, offering Haine a smile that barely touched his eyes. His tail wagged once. "What brings you here?"
He suddenly realized that he was acting a bit rudely, so he straightened up his lazy posture and added a bit more sincerity into his dazzling grin.

Haine watched as Toboe made barely an effort at all to sit up and greet him, he tilted his head slightly forwards to acknowledge the greeting, with a fairly bored smile. He shrugged, feeling his thin summer coat lift over his shoulders and he looked out at the view for a moment.
"Not much really. Just wandering around, bit bored, then I found you and figured What the hell? it's some company," he turned his dark eyes back to Toboe and smiled a little wider. "Sorry to interrupt the peace, hehe..."

Toboe quickly shook his head and yawned immediately afterwards. He might have been feeling peaceful and content being all alone up there, but Toboe always preferred company over no company. "Don't be sorry. I could use some company." He tail thumped against the ground as his blue eyes quickly swept over his peer. Haine was just the company he needed, anyway, he supposed. "So how are you enjoying the last few days of Spring?" His own heart ached as he said those words, but his smile only widened.

Haine's eyes rolled upwards at the wide expanse of sky as he considered Toboe's question. He padded forward and settled into a laying position, yawning and stretching his claws out so they scratched into the dirt a little.
Finally, he turned his attention back to Toboe and pondered his question aloud. "Spring's a bit rubbish all round, to be honest," he rolled his eyes. "No females flirt, they all just become wierdly devoted or not interested at all depending on if they want a mate or something."
He yawned. "How's it been for you?" he asked semi-curiously, lazy brown eyes scanning Toboe for signs of weary parenthood.

Toboe nodded in agreement to Haine's words, but mostly just to be polite. Honestly he had never really noticed much about the other females, except for Eyelle. And even then she hadn't been around very much. His tongue pressed against the back of his teeth until the muscle grew fatigued. "For me? It's been dull, I think, too." He let out a long sigh that he had been holding in for a while, and starting pawing at a small pebble.

Haine assessed Toboe subconsciously. He rolled onto his back and batted his paws at the sky as if he could dislodge the clouds if he reached far enough. He smiled lazily, eyes closed.
"Didn't get a girl then?" he asked, eyes still closed, caramel pelt warming slightly in the sun. His coal black paws bounced above him as if on strings from a puppeteer.

Not so long ago, Toboe would have eagerly defended himself with a loud voice and extremely confident words. But right now, the tan male felt too calm to do anything but shrug. Then he realized stupidly that Haine wouldn't have seen him shrug since his eyes were closed, so he looked out at the horizon and replied out loud with a emotionless voice. "No, I didn't. I don't think I was ready to take care of her, anyway." So it all worked out, he told himself, forcing a smile on is face as he glanced back at Haine. "Everybody knows that I'm still just a clumsy pup." He shrugged again, looking up at the same clouds that Haine had been focused on. "But when I'm up here, at this mountain, I don't really care."
"So... I take it you're not a fan of pups or something?" he asked politely, trying to change the subject a little bit at a time.

Haine rolled back onto his front, legs sprawled a little out to the side but he was comfortable. He couldn't quite figure out what the other male had just said, and it upset Haine a little. He sounded like something pretty bad had happened to him.
"You're not a pup, Toboe," Haine shrugged. "Far from it. You know, maybe wolves think you're immature 'cos you're happy? I get that a lot too," he smiled with shy liking towards the other male. "And this mountain's pretty cool. Lose yourself in the nothingness, sorta," he shrugged.
"Pups? Me? I don't know. I think if I found a female that I loved so much, pups wouldn't mean much to me at first. If she wanted them, sure, and I'd love 'em when they popped out of course. But... I haven't found that female that makes me feel committed at all. No one's stood out yet," he shrugged.

Toboe frowned a bit, thinking about what Haine said. It was true that he was happy, a lot. Even his father often commented on his enthused personality. For a third time, though, he shrugged away the thoughts and just focused on the next part of the conversation. "Not one female, huh?" he asked with a smaller smile. "I see. Makes sense. Life's not all about pups and mates, anyway, so as long as you're happy, it's whatever. Right?" Hm. He felt like he was making sense, but he also felt like he was just rambling about nothing. So he turned the conversation again. "The only bad thing about this mountain is that I can see the tips of Falling Moon from here. What bad memories."

"True, very true," Haine nodded as Toboe talked about there being other things in life. For him, pups and mates barely came into the radar, but females were always there. Some called it genius, some called it idiocy. He just called it life.
"Mmm, those Falling Moons can be vicious buggers. O'course, I wasn't around during the whole battle thing, so I don't hold that big of a grudge really..." He paused and considered the other pack mentally. He continued to stare vaguely before saying, quite quietly. "They're just wolves like us really," he murmured.

Toboe had heard that one before. He certainly didn't take that point of view however, and tried not to give Haine a dirty. Instead he tried to just look uncertain. "Well, I'll tell you one thing: they're not afraid to ruin someone's life. They were once a part of our family, but..." He gaze was cast down to the ground and furrowed his brows. "Well, you know the story, I guess." The pain really wasn't there in the beginning, but lately Toboe had started to feel an ache whenever he thought about Xaka, his own father's brother.
"So, Haine," Toboe said, looking back up with a suddenly more happy demeanor. "I've never been good at flirting. How do you do it so well?"

Deciding that the Falling Moon takeover was a little too much of a sore topic to continue in only-slightly-friends company, Haine decided not to make another comment. The actions of other wolves could be vicious, yes, he understood that, and that was all the Dancing Stars thought of the Falling Moons. Perhaps I should too, he wondered vaguely.
When the subject of flirting surfaced, however, his ears perked and he grinned widely. "Flirting?" he laughed a little. "I think it comes so easy to you when life's a game. Some wolves say that's an immature way to think, but really, flirting well is a very mature sign. Takes mental toughness," he laughed a little more. "When you're around a female, you've gotta pick a character to be. Find out what she likes, what makes her tick, take a guess if you've just met her and run with it."
He shrugged and scratched his ear for a moment. "Take for example when I met that pretty Jasmyne the other day," he tilted his head at Toboe as he spoke animatedly. "I put on this whole 'wise-wolf' thing, you know, I am all-knowing and all-wise, haha, it was brilliant, she loved it."

Toboe watched Haine's face curiously as he spoke. He never looked at things like that; the way Haine was talking about females it almost made them sound clueless. Or maybe Haine was just really, really talented. When he brought Jasmyne into the picture, it naturally made him think of Eyelle, and his heart ached a bit. "I see what you're talking about. I could use some fun these days; maybe I should stick around you for a while and observe the master in action?" Not that he really wanted to be a flirt; Toboe just needed something to take his mind off of things. And he could use a friend, too, he realized.
