Haine lit up a little more, smiling brighter as he nodded in agreement to Toboe. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship... he thought humourously. Not only would he have a wingman, he'd get to show off, and have company a lot of the time. It sounded like a good idea, whatever happened.
"That sounds like a plan," Haine smiled lazily, brown eyes glinting up at the sky for a moment. "All we need to do it find us a pair of females and begin the 'wooing'," he laughed. "Do you have your eye on anyone in particular?" he asked curiously, realising he hadn't even thought of this before.

Once again it got a little too personal for Toboe, and he cringed immediately. Another sore subject - actually, quite contrary, it was a happy subject, but he had chosen to let it go for now. Time was needed. Still, it did hurt... To see her walk away with such pain on her pretty, brown face. "Err... I don't, I don't think that's a good idea. Eyelle's not that type of female." He looked up at Haine with unsure eyes; maybe Eyelle was that type and maybe she wanted that from him after all? Toboe knew nothing much about the game of love except when he knew that he was in it. "Well... You're the expert, I guess..."

Haine's brow raised in interest, and he smiled a little at Toboe's discomfort. Not in a spiteful way, mind, just because he wanted to help Toboe get over the female.
"Ahh well, no fae's worth the trouble really, if she doesn't like you first time round I suggest you make her mad with jealousy. Every female's got this idea in their head that if you like them, you like only them, so what I suggest is when she's next around you, find another fae and flirt your little heart out," he nodded cheekily.
"Stick with me, m'dear Toboe, and I can show you the power you can so easily possess," Haine grinned.

Haine was certainly giving charm to his ideas, and Toboe considered it for a moment. Was that really the way into Eyelle's heart?
Heck no. No way. Almost as soon as he considered Haine's idea, Toboe drew his head back almost as if he had bitten into a rotten crow. Toboe was stupid half of the time, but he wouldn't be stupid this time. No way, Jose... "What if I hurt Eyelle by doing that? If that's the way into her heart, I don't want it to be that way!" He shook his head at Haine, politely, and looked a bit confused. Females were just so... Obnoxiously mysterious. "Thanks for trying to help me, but... Is there another way? Any other way?" he asked, trying to keep his tone a notch above desperate. "Urrghhh... I'm bad at this stuff." He chuckled half-heartedly.

Haine's chocolatey eyes watched Toboe's expression change as he begged for another way to this mysterious female's heart. He sighed loudly and dramatically, rolling his eyes upwards in thought and running his tongue along his teeth out of habit.
"Hmm... I don't know really. I'd have to know what she's like. What is she like? Don't think I've ever had a proper conversation with her," Haine asked, curiouser and curiouser. He was pretty sure that he might've met her and flirted with her a little, but now he knew Toboe had a particular liking to her, he'd back off.
Can't do that a friend, right? he thought, smiling slightly. He felt like, having been her for months now, he finally had a friend. Someone he could hang around with for a while, it was good.

Toboe's eyes brightened up. One, he got to talk about Eyelle without the subject being a real downer. Two, maybe Haine could cook something up after all, without it risking anything. Toboe didn't have a lot to lose. So he started talking fast, life coming back into him as he did so. "Ohh, Eyelle isn't like any other. She's got this dazzling smile, just looking into her eyes when she grins makes me forget what we had just been talking about." He looked like he was going to start bouncing off the ground, but stay put. "She's always eager to help others. She strong and smart and better than me in every way. She's happy like me, except that she's better than a klutzy pup.... Well... She used to be happy. She's lonely right now, I think. Hurting. I want to help her, but I don't know if there's anything I can do."
He rotated his jaw a few times as his enthusiasm started to die down, and he tried to plead for some sort of encouragment, idea, anything, with his dark blue eyes. "What do you think? What should I do, Haine?"

Haine considered for a moment, smiling as the younger wolf seemingly came back to life. He obviously really liked this wolf... he hoped that he could help, which was something Haine didn't often feel.
He pondered vaguely who she was and what she'd been through. By the sound of it, she could pretty much have Toboe under her thumb (so to speak) in pretty much any situation. Perhaps she was looking for a bit of a challenge?
Running with this idea, he began to ponder aloud. "Sounds a bit like she feels slightly -not spitefully, of course- surperior to you. I know that sounds wierd, but I think she can tell that you were the eager one and that might've put her off a bit," He nodded vaguely as if hoping he was making sense. "Also there's the fact she's hurting and lonely, but she's probably too proud to admit just how lonely she is. Her family's the one that fell apart right?"
He stretched his paws out and rolled his head to either side, hearing the cracks satisfyingly. "So, here's what I'm thinking. Females often subconsciously tend to go for males who mirror their father's good points," Haine bounced his head from side to side. "Most fathers are pretty wise and all, so I'd say, next time you see her, be a bit quieter and just a little more serious. She'll be all curious and ask if anything's wrong, then that leaves you to go into some long philasophical mumbo-jumbo which will probably impress her. Let her do a bit of the chasing."
He paused for just a moment. "That's likely to work... if it doesn't, she'll probably just end up laughing at you if she sees right through you, in which case pass it off as a joke." He nodded as if that were final, and flicked his ears towards Toboe as if questioning what he thought.

"That's just..." What was once a frown was now a smile, and Toboe looked more excited than ever. Why couldn't he think of things like that? Why couldn't he have charms and wit and humongous intelligence? Instead of attracting Eyelle, he probably looked like a dope chasing his own tail in hopeless circles... And he didn't do that anymore. "Genious, Haine! That makes so much sense! I don't have to trick her, or hurt her feelings, I just... Have to change myself." He sighed, more of relief than anything else. There was hope at last. But then again, it sounded like a tough situation... Was he smart enough to pull it off? Maybe if he just acted like his own father, Frosty. "I don't think it will be easy for me to do, but if I have you to back me up, I can probably do it! Thanks a bunch, Haine." His tail began to wag to echo his appreciation.

Haine was about to smile smugly and welcome Toboe's enthusiastic appreciation, when something clicked in his head. He frowned a little and leant his head forward, tilting it very slightly to the side. Change himself?
"Woah, woah, hold up there Toby," he smiled very slightly again. "I didn't mean completely change yourself! All it takes is a couple or a few meetings with her when you put on this mysterious wise act, keep her interested for a week or a month or whatever. When she's really interested, you can easily slip back into your lovely happy-go-lucky self. By that point she'll love you for whatever you happen to be."
He shrugged and smiled, leaned back again slightly and cast his eyes over the landscape. "That is, of course, if all goes to plan and she isn't as smart as you give her credit for," he laughed. "Or it depends on your acting skills!"

So many variables, so little skill. Maybe he just needed to relax a little; he told himself he could wait for Eyelle, after all. She said she needed time. Would it be unfair to try and win her heart after only a short while?
Well, Haine surely knows what he's talking about, and Haine said that Eyelle didn't like Toboe because he wasn't humoring her. Maybe if he was more interesting for a while, Eyelle would be able to take her mind off of things? She needed to have some fun anyways.
So Toboe nodded in understanding, itching to get the plan in order soon. Should he find her today? Wait a week? Tomorrow? "Okayso. When should I go see her?" he asked, letting his tongue drabble off the side of his jaw. "And thanks for all your help, Haine, I was feeling so glum that I could barely hold my food nowadays."

Haine shook his head, smiling, like a patient father teaching an eager pup how to hunt. He kinda liked playing the superior role, in a way, as he always thought of himself as fairly superior to... well, everyone. Luckily, most wolves thought he was joking about this strange self-obsession he had.
"Tobyyy, what've I told you all along? You can't be eager! It's got to be a coincidental meeting! Or at least, slightly coincidental, or you plan it but make it seem coincidental." Haine burbled for a moment, and then shook his head as if realising he needed to clarify. "Put it this way, we can have a codeword or something. If I see Eyelle, or scent her nearby, I'll howl something about eagles or something. Then, you can casually stroll back into her life and she won't think a thing of it."
He grinned proudly at this new plan.

"Make it seem cioncidental. Okay," Toboe breathed suredly, nodding in unison with the last word. It was just such a shame he could never think of things like this by himself. He always needed help. No wonder Eyelle didn't want him to take of her right now. But maybe he could show her that everyone needs help, once in a while. And he could show her that no matter how dark life might get, there's always something to live for.
"I'll need to practice being the mysterious type sometime." It was after that Toboe shifted uncomfortably and looked down at his paws. "I hope that this works. I think Eyelle really needs someone right now. I do too, I guess. I kind of know how she feels. I used to feel alone a lot when I was younger."

Haine didn't want to say it out loud, but he really could relate to and understand what Toboe meant. About feeling alone when he was younger. Heck, I spent a year out in the deathly nothingness just for the sake of a dare, Haine reminded himself. He always felt stupid for being tricked by his older brother.
"I know it may seem a little dishonest, Toby, but sometimes you have to play a little trick to make others see things differently," Haine said reasonably. "If Eyelle really needs someone, then maybe she'll fall for you as you wish she would. But maybe, just maybe, she's one of those wolves," here he thought indefinitely of himself, "Who find it far too hard to fall in love."
He smiled anyway, for good measure, to keep things upbeat. "All you can do is try, my friend, what've you got to lose?"

He almost wanted to say, his heart. But he didn't want to sound like an idiot, so he just nodded unsurely and looked back up to the skies. He wouldn't blame Eyelle if she didn't want to love anybody, if it came down to that. Toboe would just walk away at that point and give her the space she probably wanted. Of course, he'd probably shatter his insides in the process. But he could deal with that.
"Thanks, Haine. I guess I'll get going, then." He shook dirt off of his pelt and began to pad away down the side of the mountain, walking with his head held a bit high. "See you later," he called over his shoulder, picking up to pace to a trot.
