Try not to talk when there's nothing to say
He knew, finally, that he could no longer escape it. His caramel pelt was lucious and soft as always, littered with the darkest of blacks all along his back and paws as he moved along the open landscape of the deadlands.
Get bottled up, we get carried away
Most wolves had layers. They may seem like idiots on the surface but below it, there's someone just waiting to come out. A wolf who everyone loves and needs. A wolf with depth and understanding. But when you were like Haine, there was nothing like that.
Then I fall, then I fall down, then we fall down
He regretted nearly everything. It was so hard to appear upbeat and carefree all the time when you're so scared that one day your perfect siblings or useless parents will show up and uncover everything. No, I'll never be what they think I am, Haine thought miserably, feeling so out-of-character.
And you know that it makes me feel so ridiculous
He hated this stupid self-pitying but he could never talk to anyone about anything. He was like an island, with the sea adrift around him, calm and happy to be alone. But when the storm of memories past brews, who's to say he wouldn't be engulfed?

When Midnight came to Sukalina with news of her choice in a mate, the pretty mother was completely shocked. She hadn't paid as much attention to Midnight's love life as she just did her daughter's life in general. But when she found out that her own daughter had been chasing after Quianna's son, Sukalina was so surprised that it took her an entire day to realize that her very daughter would be able to boss her around now. How did that make sense? In a pack of wolves, it made plenty sense.
But, still... Now Sukalina felt even more lonely than before. If Shaddix's death didn't do it, Midnight's new distance broke the line.
She sighed quietly to herself as she walked through the deadlands. She had just made some dirt after having a quick meal of a rabbit, and now she felt itching to excersise. She debated whether or not to take a quick lap around the area when she looked over to see none other than the famous Haine. Her face lit up and she changed directions to head towards him, no longer dragging her tail. She could count on Haine giving her an interesting conversation.

Silently trotting along in her own little world, filled with wondering and love and especially jealousy, the cream-hued fae known as Jasmyne made her way across the Deadlands, not knowing where she was headed or why. She just didn't feel like interacting with her usual group-sisters, parents, the twins and Toboe. Huh, it was funny, she hadn't seen, smelled, nor heard from her mother for weeks now, and she wondered what she could possibly be doing. Come to think of it, Leia was keeping quiet too.
Which left her father and Eyelle. She hated to admit it, but Jasmyne envied Eyelle's happiness, how she had Toboe while Jasmyne wandered around with no one. Everyone knew Jasmyne was the pretty one, shy at first yes, and that she loved her sister dearly. But hidden in the love was one of the seven deadilest things on earth-the sin of envy. And on beautiful days like today, it made the young fae want to mope and be left alone, though with a pack so large it was impossible.
So there she was, making her way through the deserted land, when her green eyes spotted another figure on the horizon. As she drew nearer, she noticed it was a tan colored male, with blacked speckled cross his body. She didn't recall ever meeting him, and she sighed, figuring no one could feel as bad as she did. So why not try to be friendly and maybe be cheered up a tad?
She padded slowly over as he came within ear shot, and she gave a bark to signal she was there. But wait, he looked as troubled as she did, for what she did not know. But she was always one to cheer others up, and she temporarily forgot her own rotten mood. Excuse me, is something wrong?

Vixen padded droopily around the deadlands. She was so confused. She'd been putting off speaking to Loch, but sh couldn't avoid it forever. She loved two males. One more than the other. But, she wasn't sur which she loved more. She knew she had feelings for both of them, but she felt differentl around each. Around Loch, she got lightheaded and all her problems melted away. Around Lash, she got butterflies in her stomach and grew nervous. But, Lash returned her love. It seemed Loch did too, but he wasn't able to accept another female into his heart quite yet.
Suddenly she looked up to spot the two wolves. She sat down in a huff and sighed, "Hullo."

Without a sound to give her away, Sukalina had managed to sneak up on Haine in his moment of self-pity. Ack! he panicked mentally, simply staring at her for a moment. Damn her for catching me off guard!
"Hello there, pretty lady," he grinned and laughed a little, but even he could hear how forced it sounded. Still, he'd greeted her now. She would greet him. They'd chat for a while, he'd continue to act like an arrogant arse to cover up the fact he was incredibly insecure.
He wondered whether he'd ever find someone he could be real with.
Before he even had a chance to hear Sukalina reply, two younger females had strolled on up. Haine mentally noted that females seemed to be attracted to self pitying males. This confused him greatly, but he shook it out of his mind and grinned widely. Perhaps this would be his chance to impress a few more shewolves.
"And hello to you two too," he sucked in a breath as he grinned, chest inflating and then deflating again. Be cool, be witty, be charming. Above all, don't be upset. "And I'm fine thanks, how're you?" He indicated Jasmyn, noticing she was uncommonly pretty. His eyes flickered back to Sukalina and then Vixen, so they wouldn't feel ignored.
He knew what it felt like to feel ignored.

Jasmyne gave a smile to her mother's friend, Sukalina, and cuddled into her chest fur in greeting. Hey there Sukalina. She was like the fae's second mom, and she wondered if she knew Midnight was alpha. Probably, rumors didn't spread slowly around here. Giving a slight nod to Vixen, she turned back to Haine. She smiled, half glad someone's day was going better than hers. But she knew what it was like, to feel bad then try to cover it up. Bottle it all in. It never worked; eventually the truth always came out.
I'm good, but I don't think I've met you before...? She trailed off, waiting for him to give his name. She hadn't met someone new in awhile, and it was nice to see different faces for a change.

Sukalina smiled affectionately at Jasmyne. She loved that female, she was just such an adorable doll. When she looked over at Vixen, however, some of the affectionate look disappeared, but only because she wasn't too familiar with the other female. When she looked back at Haine, she frowned hard. What was wrong? She could just tell that he wasn't feeling good. So she decided to question him about it. "Haine? What could possibly be the matter? Here you have three beautiful females," she winked humorously, "and you look completely out of yourself. What's eating you?" She hoped he'd come out and say it, but she wouldn't press any further than her direct question if he wasn't comfortable with it. Unless he gave her a reason to.

"Haine," he said to Jasmyn, finishing her sentence for her. He smiled charmingly and then looked defiantly over at Sukalina, trying his very best to keep his mask on. This happiness mask, he couldn't let anyone see the real him just yet.
"And I'm fine, Sukalina, what are you talking about?" He rolled his eyes. "I was just a bit lonely, and thankfully now my lonliness has been cured by the presence of you three," he grinned, lying through his teeth, but convincingly.

She eyed him suspisciously, but didn't see through his lie. So she grinned back at him and tossed her ears to the sides. Haine was just a devilish charmer. "Ohh, I see."
She looked over at Jasmyne with a humorous glint in her eyes, wondering if Jasmyne would be charmed by the socially buff male. Then she remembered Vixen, too, she shifted her gaze towards her for a second.

Jasmyne smiled as his name was given, then turned to Sukalina as she spoke. The fae was like her second mom, and Jasmyne cared for her dearly. So her concern for this male-Haine-worried her. She hoped he was alright, for she wished Suka to be alright. However, upon hearing the words the two exchanged, she chuckled and her muscles relaxed. He seemed okay, though she did wonder what was troubling him. Too her, the lie was unaffective, for she herself was sad inside. She was just trying to make sure she did a damn-good job of hiding it. And so far, she had.
Seeing as how Haine didn't seem to want to open up, not even to Sukalina, Jasmyne let it go and pretended to go along with it. She lifted her paw gently, and licked it clean, somewhat resembling a cat. She put it down again, and looked at Haine, green eyes glistening. So, how long have you been in Dancing Stars Haine? I've never seen you before, she said, giving a look to Vixen, who hadn't spoken a word. She'd heard much about this fae, but had never actually met her. And it hadn't all been good things either, but she'd let it go. She wouldn't judge without getting to know her, but from Sukalina's reaction to the fae, she wasn't too fond of her.

Vixen growled lightly to herself, irritated that they kept looking at her. She was no different than them, just stuck at a rough patch in life. "Why do you all keep looking at me? Do I have purple polka dots or something?" She said, smiling at the last part.
She got up frm her laying down position, stretched, and padded a little closer to the three, sitting nearest t Jasmyne. "How're your lives doing?"

Haine's ears flicked a little as he looked over at Vixen. She'd just said something about them all staring at her, and he tilted his head, smirking slightly. "Someone's a little tetchy..." he commented. It was probably a little immature, but hey, so is Haine.
"Ohhh quite a while, I think I joined here sometime before winter. So, a season," he shrugged at Jasmyn, smiling devilishly. It wouldn't hurt, would it? A little light flirting to cheer him up. "Have you been here your whole life?" He asked, watching her curiously.

Suka remained silent, not wanting to interrupt the conversation, but she hadn't meant to offend Vixen at all. So she dipped her head in an apology and gave a toothy, wolfish smile, hoping to clear things up. Sukalina remembered her own daughter saying something about Vixen, how, if it weren't for her words, Midnight wouldn't have had the courage to admit her love for Caerwyn. So she respected that greatly.
She looked back at Haine. He was looking like he felt much better already. Nothing like a couple of attractive females to lighten his mood, huh? She smiled happily. For some reason she liked Haine's goofy and humorous personality quite much, even if it could be turned into a weapon against poor, naive females.

Jasmyne listened to Vixen, then gave a raise of her delicate eyebrow. I didn't mean to stare, I don't think we've met either. She looked to Sukalina for help, but saw her look change, so she too relaxed. Listening to Haine, she gave a mysterious smile of her own.
I've been here my whole life. In Dancing Stars anyway. Our pack didn't always live in these lands that you've probably grown accustomed to. She was referring to the take over of Falling Moon, though now she did not have such harsh feelings about it. She had grown up now, and she was ready to fight back now. She turned her head again, noticing Suka's affectionate look towards Haine, but she didn't say a word. Apparently, her "aunt" was fond of this male.

Haine had to admit, as he caught Sukalina's eyes and smiled in return, he had a funny feeling Sukalina knew him better than he thought she did. Something about the way she smiled and looked at him gave him the impression she saw straight through him and still didn't uncover his insecurities. It was nice, and he knew although it sounded like love, it definitely wasn't. He didn't know how to love, right?
Turning his attention back to Jasmyn, he grinned widely again. It was so easy to forget about your troubles when you had females to impress. Thank the Wolf Spirits there were a lot of them here!
"Ahhh, I never grow accustomed to anything. Life can change things so quickly," he sounded almost wise he realised. Running with the idea, he thought it'd be fun to play the wise wolf. "When you get used to something life can take it away in the blink of an eye. In a way, I like it like that. Actually, I like knowing it's like that, it means you can live in the moment and take every chance life throws at you."
Thinking that was a good note to finish on, he grinned as a finishing note.
