It was a beautiful day, and instead of being stuck in the den, the figures walking along the Lined Cliffs had decided to be out and about. The larger one walked in front, steps sure and strong as he moved along. His orange and white coat shined in the sun, and he looked back frequently at the small being following him with pride. Omari looked back at his father, green eyes shining as his little legs tried to keep up. His smile was bright, and he followed the Beta enthusiastically.
On little legs, the pup tried to keep up as best he could, following Josiah proudly. He had never been outside of Falling Moon land before, so everything was new to him. His gray-green eyes looked around curiously at everything, and his small nose scrunched up at every new scent. This trip had been reserved especially for him, and he knew it.
He was the oldest son in their litter, the first son to his parents, and he felt like he deserved more than Denzin in some cases. Like spending time with their father. He took pride that he looked like Josiah, except for the white ring he inherited from Almira, and the brown legs that he had. Suddenly, he stumbled, and he tripped over his little legs, sliding down the dirt path. He let out a high-pitched yelp and a look of horror filled his young eyes. Josiah turned around, and seeing his son sliding farther and farther away from him, he bolted after him, reaching him in no time and snatching him up by the scruff of his neck before he reached the cliff edge.
Omari panted, breathless and frightened, in his father's jaws. he shivered uncontrollably; he was still too small to take care of himself. Josiah moved quickly, carrying him the rest of the way up the path until they reached the top. He set Omari down, and looked at him, looking for any injury. Then he stuck his nose to him and sniffed him, knocking the pup onto his back gently so he could smell his stomach. Omari growled and pawwed at him in protest. Daddy stop! I'm okay. Josiah, sensing no injury, snorted onto his son's stomach, making the pup laugh, and he moved off of him to let him sit up.
Well, we're here Omari. Look out over the cliffs. Can you see our home? The pup looked out eagerly, and squirmed in his spot, trying not to seem too excited. I can, I can! It's beautiful. Josiah smiled at his son, and laid down on the ground, keeping a careful eye on Omari as he explored. He was content, but he wondered if anyone would come along. He wouldn't mind, Omari could use the socialization.

It had been a fair while since Duke had actually gone out into No Man's Land without wanting to kill a fellow wolf or wanting to avoid a fellow wolf. The buttery sunshine which warmed his thin summer pelt was actually relaxing him, and these feelings never lasted long when you were the alpha of an angry and unforgiving pack.
As he wandered about the Lined Cliffs, taking in all the scents he'd never really forgotten but somehow had pushed out of his mind momentarily, when he caught a more familiar scent. His Beta male was somewhere around, and Duke felt like he should make an appearance.
His great, lumbering, monotone form clambered into view and he quickly saw that Josiah was with his son. Duke wasn't sure whether he wanted to make a scary impression on the pup or not, so he stayed momentarily silent before speaking.
"Good day, Josiah," Duke nodded. Thatw as civil, but not friendly, right? He wondered and decided it didn't matter anyway. He kept his distance a little, not wanting to act as if he was posing a threat to Josiah's pup.

Josiah looked up at the large male, recognizing his voice when he spoke. He immediately stood and gave a nod of his head to Duke in respect. Hello Duke. What brings you to No Man's? Josiah really did not know what business his alpha had in the land of the loners, but then again it could have just been personal affairs. He did have a lot to do afterall.
Looking back at Omari, he saw that the pup stood behind his father's back leg, peeking out at Duke's large form, greenish-gray eyes wide. Josiah chuckled and lifted his leg away from his son, exposing the little orange pup to the alpha. It occured to Josiah that none of the pups had met the higher authority of the pack, and he decided now was the time to introduce the pup, however briefly. He nudged the pup towards Duke then looked to his alpha.
Duke, this is my eldest son Omari. Omari this is the alpha of our pack, Duke. Omari looked at Duke's large form, and though he seemed like he wasn't going to hurt him, he still shivered at the sight of the male. He looked tough, and like he had been through much being the alpha of such a large and powerful pack. Omari looked from his alpha to his father, and Josiah gave an encouraging nod and nudged him towards Duke. The pup took cautious steps as he waddled toward him, and when he was finally close enough to look straight up at him, he gave a bow of respect, but stumbled forward onto his face on the rocky footing. He stood up embarrassed, looked at Duke in fright, and ran back to his father, hiding behind his front legs.
Josiah chuckled and shook his head, but at least the pup had gotten Duke's scent. He looked at Duke, wondering where Anevay had gone lately for he hadn't seen her in awhile either. She was probably occupied with their own new pup, and Josiah wondered who had given birth this spring. He did have to keep track of everyone as beta afterall.

Duke smiled very briefly and nodded as Josiah greeted him. He let the other male talk, dark eyes set on Josiah's own green ones as they spoke, before he looked down at the pup. Duke contemplated whether to gruffly acknowledge the little squirt or to just stay silent. He knew he was intimidating, especially to a little one like that.
Reminded him for a moment of his own little Tallulah. He was sure he should be keeping a closer eye on his newest baby girl but he was a bit distracted recently. Anevay hadn't been around for a long time, as far as Duke was concerned, and it was beginning to worry him. She could take care of herself, he knew that, but was she purposefully avoiding him?
Allowing his mind to come back to reality, he nodded at the little pup and relaxed his great muscles, sitting down slowly. No sudden movements, poor little tyke would wet himself.
"Omari. Good, strong name," Duke complimented. He frowned for a moment, trying to remember how many pups his two Betas had popped out. He couldn't remember, though, and decided it was wholly unimportant. "As for me... well, to be truthful I was on the trail of Anevay. I haven't seen her for a while and I was wondering whether she'd made a momentary escape to No Man's, as we all do occasionally." He spoke with only the slightest of concern glazing over his indifference, he didn't want to seem vulnerable even to Josiah.

Josiah nodded as the introduction ended, and he sat as well, following Duke's example. Omari still stared out at the great male, and he stayed huddled between Josiah's front legs, but his shivering had stopped and his eyes now filled with curiosity. He was proud the alpha had complimented his name, and he couldn't wait to tell his sisters and brother. Meanwhile, Josiah listened intently as Duke spoke. So the Beta male hadn't been the only one to notice her absence.
He nodded as Duke finished speaking, and decided to say something that wouldn't show his own concern for their pack's second alpha. If Anevay had disappeared, what would happen to their newest pup, and what would the pack do? No, it was much better to maintain order, Josiah knew that much and if it was no concern to Duke-which it didn't seem to be-then he shouldn't worry either. She'll turn up eventually, though I've noticed her absence recently too. While she's away, how is your newest heir doing? What was her name again?

"Tallulah," Duke answered, eyes on Omari for a moment longer. The little pup was reminding him of his big, strong sons and he wasn't sure when the last time was that he'd seen them. Probably too busy having their own lives to get on with seeing their father. He didn't mind, though, not really.
"She's fine, I suppose," he rolled his eyes. He'd heard various stories of his newest daughter's wanderings and her spoilt attitude. He was quite amused by it, in a way. "She's got a loud mouth, that one, and she's not afraid to voice her opinions. She'll be very pretty when she grows up, though, so I suppose she'll get away with it."
He grinned a little to himself. Then he tilted his head and studied Omari a little more. "So what're your little ones like?" He directed the question at Josiah, glancing up so it was clear.

Josiah chuckled as he defined his newest addition to the family. Talllulah seemed to be quite the pawful. She sounds like my oldest daughter, Fallon. She's quite...independent. But she's a bit of a fighter, mind you. I do worry that she's a bit hard on her sister Naila though.
Denzin has a mouth as well, and he seems to be arrogant already. Naila is a sweetheart, but doesn't stick up for herself. That's where this little one here comes in. He indicated Omari by nudging him gently with his snout. He's quite protective of her, but he's still quite laid back. Josiah was proud of his eldest son, his second oldest child. He already seemed more mature than the other three, and his protectiveness proved him to be a good candidate for beta when he was older.
He looked at his Omari, who was examining Duke as much as Duke was him. This large wolf didn't seem so scary now, and at the sound of more pups, Omari smiled to himself. Maybe him and this "Tallulah" girl could be friends! And if she was truly like Fallon, then he knew his sister and her would get along. Maybe. His older sister had the tendency to be bossy, in his opinion. He snorted at the thought and looked back at Duke, a curious smile on his face.

Duke didn't ask the question that he knew would get answered someday along the line.
Will they fight for this pack?
He let the question burn in his eyes, instead, and looked down at Omari. If he was protective, even if it was just of his sister for now, there was hope. Besides, their parents were both Betas that had won their places in the pack, there had to be some sort of fighting spirit in them. This Fallon girl sounded good, too. Denzin would get along fine. Naila... she may have a bit of a problem.
Raising a brow slowly, he tilted his head and watched as the pup studied him. He seemed to be coming out of his shell a little now. That was good, Falling Moon didn't tolerate shyness well. He looked back up at Josiah, the proud father, and smiled very briefly in congratulations.
"Sounds like quite a bunch you have there," he said approvingly. He looked out over the land which rolled out beneath the mountain with hard, dark eyes. He wasn't sure what he was searching for, so he turned back to Josiah for a moment.

Omari looked at Duke, then back at his father, sensing no threat now. All fear subsided, and was replaced with curiosity and respect. He tried to bow again, this time, his footing sure. He lifted his head back up, proud that he hadn't made a fool of himself this time, and he sat back on his haunches. Josiah nodded as Duke spoke, putting his gaze on his son, then out across the horizon, remembering all that had taken place for Falling Moon to get it.
It was a story he'd tell the pups later, when they would understand it. In the meantime, his green eyes stayed locked on the green land that moved beneath them. After awhile, he turned back to Duke and Omari.
ooc||When will the plot with the earthquake start? I noticed Moony had a post where her character heard the rumbling in the ground, and it's a fact you feel S- and P-waves before the actual shaking. Maybe the wolves cold sense it and start getting restless?

ooc- Just started a discussion OOC board about the earthquake. Duke, Josiah and Omari feeling some tremors is a good idea too. (:
bic- Duke's lumbering head turned slowly, watching the view. He blinked back as Omari was bowing once again and he smiled a little, nodding his great head approvingly. He didn't want a bad rep with the new generation, he'd decided.
There was a strange sensation suddenly running through his paws. It lasted only a second but it was enough to unsettle Duke. It was like the feeling of standing beside a stampeding caribou herd, it made the pads on your paws tingle. He shifted into a sitting position as he felt another.
He looked up, alarmed slightly, and straight at Josiah. He cocked his ears, wondering what had happened.

Josiah too felt the tremors, and he looked up at Duke, his eyes showing a little concern. Omari stood up immediately, feeling the shaking underneath his small bum. He looked at his father with worry, who immediately pulled his son towards him to comfort him. Josiah turned his head to look at the ground as he felt more tremors, and he stood up as the tingling in his paws continued.
What was that? Josiah looked up at Duke, then out across the land again. His face scrunched up; all the years he had been in the valley, and he hadn't felt the ground shaking. Maybe it was nothing to be concerned about, but it still nagged at the back of his mind.
Omari looked at the ground nervously, and he stuck his small black nose to it, as if trying to get a scent. He smelled nothing, but felt one last tremor beneath his oversized paws. Grunting he looked up at Josiah, gray-green eyes showing mixed emotions.

"I have no idea," Duke commented, concerned. He barely glanced back down at Omari before he looked at Josiah again. He growled, but it was clearly not directed at either. He was just suddenly frustrated, he wanted to know what the ground-tremors meant.
"Damn us for not having an elder in the pack," he scorned himself, jumping to his feet and pacing backwards and forwards for a moment. He looked out over the rest of the valley, wondering if everyone had felt such a strange sensation. "An elder would surely know that that meant. I refuse to believe it's insignificant," his last sentence explained his reaction quickly to Josiah.

Josiah's eyes were narrowed, and he nodded in agreement as Omari huddled next to him. With the abrupt shaking and the tingling sensation they all felt in their paws, he knew something wasn't right. Something was...wrong. He could sense it; every fiber of his being said there was something bigger yet to come, and he didn't like it. You're right. Something isn't right in the valley, and I doubt we were the only ones to feel it.
He looked out across the lands, and realized that Almira and the rest of their pups had been in the den when they left. He immediately began to worry, and he had the urge to see his family. Looking back at Duke, he cleared his throat to get rid of the emotion he had before he spoke. Should we gather the pack for a meeting then?
