Vixen lay on her back at the peak of Moon Mountain. She was just thinking things through, nothing abnormal. She was bored and needed a good laugh. She also felt a bit flirty. She knew there was only one wolf that would suit her needs, so she rose to her paws, and howled for her friend, Loch.
Suddenly the rocks beneath her began to slip, and before vixen had time to escape, collapsed. She tumbled down the side of the mountain. She only fell 2 yards down,b ut on the way down she hit her head on a rock. She was unconsious.

Obsidian ears twitched as they picked up the call. It sounded like Vixen...calling Loch. The large male got to his feet and padded forward a few steps, stopping to stretch his muscles. He yawned wearily. What a good nap. Rejuvinated, he trotted toward Vixen's call.
As he approached the peaks, he saw the limp body of a rust-colored wolf. How many rust-colored wolves did he know? It must've been Vixen! He sped forward and when he got to her side, he began nudging off some small rock fragments from her motionless frame. He panicked. Ears flattened to his head in fear as he licked her muzzle. Nothing.
Loch was freaking out. He lowered his head and pessed his ear to her chest. He exhaled deeply in relief assoon as he heard the gentle thump thump of the female's heart. Still worried, though, he moved toward her head and lay beside her so that his nose was only a few inches from hers.
"Vixen. Viiiixxxxennn. This is no time for a nap."

Vixen could hear Loch speaking, she just couldn't see anything. It was pitch-black! A fly buzzed near her ear, and tickled the small inner hair. Her ear twitched as a reflex. She looked around wildly pitch black. She lifted her head and looked at the source of the voice. "I can hear you but I can't see you!". She then realised one important thing. Her eyelids were closed. She opened them and smiled up at the male. "Loch!". She got up. "Any idea what happenned?"

Loch chuckled. He licked Vixen's nose.
"You really scared me there. And no, when I came you were already out cold" He wrinkled his nose and shrugged, bending down to offer to help her get up.
ooc // Sorry, distracted.

Vixen smilied and slowly rose to her feet. Why'd he lick me? She wondered. When he spoke, she was really confused. Why'd it scare him? She decided to ask him. "I-It scared you? How come? I mean, is there a reason?" She asked, with an innocent look on her face. Maybe he like-liked her too!

Loch shrugged. It had scared him half to death when he saw her limp body on the floor, rocks scattered over her russet fur.
"You're my friend, Vix." Loch pointed out, inching closer to the fae. "I care about you." He nudged her muzzle again. "You look hungry."

Vixen was speechless! He was her /friend/? FRIEND!? And he ONLY cared for her? Then why had he flirted? Why had he led her on like that? She frowned slightly, and walked back up to the original spot on the peak. "It's a pretty view." She said quietly. "I can see No Man's Land from here.".
She glanced back at him. How could he do that to her? She sighed silently. She'd never find a mate, would she.

Loch padded over to where Vixen sat. He smiled at her and tilted his head. The way the sunlight hit her face was just exquisite.
"Yes. No Man's is quite big." Wow. Smooth one, Loch. He took a deep breath of the fresh mountain air and let his amber eyes wander over their surroundings. It was extraordinary. Loch hoped in his secret heart, that one day he would be an alpha and have a magnificent territory such as this one, but he knew he'd never be so lucky. Loch, pressed for something to say, nudged Vixen's shoulder.
"Are you sure you're alright? That was quite a nasty fall."

She glanced back at him as he spoke. She was glad she'd found out he didn't return her feelings early. She had just prevented major heartbreak.
"It's about the same size as either of the territories. I should know. I lived there for about a year. I've only just rejoined the Dancing Stars." She said quietly. She looked back and grinned, then returned her gaze to the view. "Yes, I'm alright." She lied, knowing her back leg was sore. "I must've gotten lucky and only fell on the smoother spots.". She heaved a sigh. She didn't think Loch /liked/ her back, but if he didn't she had nothing to lose. "Loch, I've gotta tell you something. But you have to promise it won't screw up our friendship."

Loch smiled wearily and nudged the female. He was glad she was okay. His tail wagged slowly behind him, but his eyes were hollow, and spun with a complex sadness. Heartbreak. Loch just didn't feel like himself. Not after the way Eyelle had kicked him to the curb. He sighed, looking at Vixen. He was fond of the female, yes, but his heart still yearned and ached for Eyelle. Maybe in time he could get over the bonny fae and learn to love again, but for now his heart was too shattered to trust another femme.
Lochnivar grimaced. He knew what was coming next. He knew how Vixen felt, he could tell, but before she said anything, he would have to tell her that he wasn't ready to get back on the love train. "Vixen. I know what you're going to say, and you are a great, great wolf. You are pretty, smart, strong, fast, a good huntress, but my heart aches right now for another. I have given it to a female and I think she may have dropped it. I hurt constantly, and I can't be with another wolf just yet." He shrugged and scooted over to her, resting his large head gently upon her back. "What I need right now is a friend." He rubbed his nose into her soft russet fur and inhaled deeply. "You understand, don't you?"

Vixen listened quietly as he spoke. "Yes, I understand. I know exactly how you feel. I've had my heart broken twice before. The second time was easier because I never told him, but he only thinks of me as a sister." She said, slightly chuckling. She rotated her head around and looked at him. The poor male. "I'll be your friend." She grinned. "Was it Eyelle? She seemed to attach to you like glue the day you met.".

Loch grimaced as he thought back to that day. Eyelle was so lovely, so kind, and she flirted a lot. A lot. Loch shrugged. He inched away from Vixen a bit, turning around to lick his bear-attack wound. When he wheeled his head around again, he caught the female's gaze and held it.
"Yes. And I thought so too. Ah well, all's fair in love and whatsit." He chuckled, though only half-heartedly. He was just trying to lighten things up. Loch hoped to the heavens that next time he fell in love it would be with a nice, sensible female like Vixen.
