Josiah's hurt showed a hurt look, and his face fell slightly at Eyelle's question. She certainly didn't beat around the bush. He looked away, his green pools giving a little sadness into the fog. He sighed, and turned to look at his niece. In all honesty, I can barely remember. I do remember coming to these lands with your mother, aye we were both younger then, and ready to escape our old lives and childhood. This place was better for us, and we stayed. Back then, the packs weren't divided. But Shaye, Cocoa's ex-mate, became power hungry, and he promised us much if we followed him. With the packs divided, we could take over Dancing Stars, having the land and food to ourselves, and prooving ourselves to the others. With two packs, there were less wolves in each, it meant more food and less wolves to share it with. You might be able to see the allure of it all.
He paused here, taking his time to gather his thoughts. He took a deep breath, then continued. I never wanted to really leave your mother, but I knew I didn't belong with her pack. I never really fit in there; I needed out. So I left. And I have become strong. However, I cannot leave my pack. I am the beta male, and our pack needs one, just like yours does. I can only hope you do not think us bad and uncaring filth, for some of us are not. Mean and rude, yes we can be. But they do have feelings, and we do what we must to survive. Just like you.
He sighed, looking at the ground, waiting for them to pass their judgement on him.
----
Jasmyne sat and listened to her uncle's tale, taking it all in quietly. She still felt a little betrayed, but at least she knew why he did what he did now. It still confused her slightly, but she knew that it was the simple game of survival, and they were all players, like it or not. She looked up at him, and gave a small smile, her first friendly gesture to him since she had met him. She decided to do something she hadn't, and stood up, walking over to him. She nuzzled his fur gently, burying her head in his neck, and Josiah gave a start as the affection passed between uncle and niece. He gave a gentle smile and calmed down, resting his chin on her head.

Leia, completely in awe, just stared at him blankly. But as he addressed her, she had to answer. She just wasn't the type to ignore a question, especially from a male this intriguing. "Oh, uh, I've been okay. Just trying to find a male before spring." She then thought back to what Eyelle had said. She liked Toboe too? She gulped. Oh well. She liked Sparrow, and slightly Tristan, as well. But she really liked Toboe. She frowned. She needed to tell him. She pushed the thought to the back of her mind, deciding she'd tell him that night. If he liked her back, fine. If not, then Eyelle could have a go. She then returned her attention to Josiah. So that IS how the packs divided... She thought. "But, what was alluring about taking over the dancing stars? The amount of food, yes that is alluring. But, taking over your family's pack? Can you tell me about it?" She said, smiling. He was interesting. "Please?"

Josiah looked to Leia, giving a small smile to the young fae. Back then, young Leia, the only family I had was your mother. The last thing I was thinking about was my sister's future children. But you are right. And besides, she had the right to come along, if she wished. I was raised by her, you must remember that-here he paused to look at his sister with grateful and loving eyes-and without her, I wouldn't be here. But I had to live for myself, figure things out on my own, you know? Just like you all will do one day, if you haven't already.
I never would dream of hurting your mother of course, not intentionally. I would never fight her, or cause physical harm, though we have had our...differences. He looked away as he referred to their many fights that had broken out, one of them being in this very fog. Looking back to Leia, he continued. I tried to warn her before the war broke out, and even when it finally came, I knew I had to make sure she was okay. If anyone would injure her, it would be me, and even then, nothing too serious. I would never let my packmates harm her-or you all for that matter, and I never meant to hurt her the way I did.
He looked at the four of them, and gave a smile.

Eveline, for some reason, had to look away as Josiah spoke. Her past was all a muddle, and the only time things had gotten better after Josiah left, was when Crossbones became her mate. Her ears drooped a little, for he had still not come, and she was worried now. Hearing Josiah talking about it just brought it all back.
Eyelle stayed silent for much of the time, but blinked at Josiah, and tilted her head. My, my. she thought. Who would've thought? My uncle, the "good" Falling Moon...
It was an odd thought. She frowned a little. Why did he think he fitted in with those disgusting excuses for wolves? She didn't care, really, if he'd had any part in killing Xaka and ruining their pack, she wasn't sure she could forgive him. Something was wrong. There was a wall between them, and she found it hard to accept him.
She decided, though, that for the benefit of everyone around, she'd lie. "That's good, Josiah," she replied, with a bright smile. "We accept you." She nodded, and her eyes glanced over to her mother, who seemed to have put on a brave face too, smiling birghtly. Eyelle reflected on how similar they were.

Josiah nodded slowly, listening to Eyelle and looking at the girls. They seemed so different. Leia, a curious gal, while Eyelle resembled their mother, and Jasmyne the shy, untrusting one of the group-at first. He knew he had left some things out, and wanted to clear them up before he forgot.
There's one more thing I have to mention...I had nothing to do with Xaka's death, nor did I kill Eagle for that matter. I know I don't seem to fit your description and "requirements" for the Falling Moons, but that is alright. Besides, I can't leave now; I'm their Beta male. And there needs to be someone stable in that pack, with those crazy faes and arrogant males. He was referring to quite a few packmates, remembering Satine's sarcasm 24/7, Dagger's insanity at the Beta fight, and Hood's flirtatious attitude with that loner Wheya at the forest. He wondered how they had ever taken over the Dancing Stars land in the first place sometimes.
Just remember what I said-as bad as you may think they are, they aren't that much different from you yourselves. Just a bit meaner, and 3x as sarcastic.

Eveline moved forwards and nuzzled into her brother's cheek. It felt so good to be back on good terms with him, it had been haunting her for months about how they'd treated each other. She smiled, looking down to each of her daughters in turn, until her eyes caught Eyelle's expression.
It was fairly unreadable, but there was a definite caution in Eyelle's bright green eyes. It were as if she were trying to see through Josiah, as if she didn't quite trust him then. Catching her mother's eye, Eyelle smiled slightly, and then nodded to her family.
"That's good, Josiah. I would hate to think you supported the killing of such great wolves." Eyelle said, still smiling, but it was obvious there was a sarcastic tone beneath it. No matter what he says, she thought fiercely, still smiling politely. He helped them lead us to ruin.
She turned, and without another word, she disappeared out of sight.

Josiah nuzzled into his sister's neck, and wrapped a paw around Jasmyne in a "wolf hug". He felt like an empty hole had been filled, and he felt his heart lighten with such burdens of the past gone. Though he sensed all was still not quite right. His ears pricked forward as he heard Eyelle's voice float in after his own.
He tensed up, hearing the sarcasm drip from her tongue like poison, but he knew they was nothing he could do to change that. His green pools watched her, and he gave a nod to her as she made her exit. Jasmyne looked up at him, seeing the worried expression on his face. Don't worry. She'll come around..eventually. She can't stay mad forever, can she mama? She looked to Eveline with hopeful eyes, eyes that prayed her mother would say her sister would be alright.
Josiah just shook his head, and nuzzled Jasmyne's ear. Do not worry about it Jasmyne. You either Eve. I don't blame her for her reaction, I'd probably do the same in her position. But at least I still have you three.
