The young fae ran wildly towards the border, her brick red fur rustling in the cool spring breeze. Her eyes were tightly shut, avoiding the scenery around her, putting all of her trust in her scarlet-tinted ears, black nose and golden paws. She didn't want to look back at what she was running away from, and what she was leaving behind. Because the truth was, she'd finally worked out who she was, and she knew she didn't belong here.
I'm the heiress of another pack. The Alpha is my father. The massive, dark beast that tried to kill me in the forest was my cousin. I'm not dead. They need to know. I'm not dead!
She'd finally discovered the truth of her story, no longer taunted by mismatching flashbacks because she'd pieced together the whole truth. She was the next in line to the throne of a pack that lived a few moons away, but her cousin had brought her to No Man's Land, here, on a hunt. Little did she know at the time that she was the one to be hunted; killed so that her cousin could become the heir. Now, she had to go back to her birth-pack and leave Dancing Stars. Leave everything behind.

Toboe's eyes reflected the sight of a running Carmine. She looked determined, maybe a little regretful and afraid, but he was so sure she wasn't coming back. Even idiot-Toboe knew it. He frowned. He really loved Carmine. As a friend. Sometimes Toboe wondered if he and Carmine were somehow related, they got along so well because of their mirrored personalities. She was fun, he was funny. She was loving, he was protective. She was a daydreamer, and Toboe was just a dreamer.
He followed her for a short period of time, keeping out of sight to the left and matching her pace. Eventually he shot forward with his fastest sprint, cutting across her path and sitting down on his haunches, panting from his efforts. He waited for her to come at any second. If she was going to leave, she could at least say goodbye to good ol' Toboe, right?

He followed her scent. He had been following her for a while, not stalker-ish follow just casual. He was always trying to speak to her again about personal life, seeing as he wanted to get to know her, but always backed out at the last minute. Now that she was going to the Dancing Star border, Roan was curious.
Forgetting about all his questions, sides still heaving, Roan ran even faster. Toboe's scent was fresh but he didn't care, Roan just wanted to speak with Carmine. He just hoped she was friends with Thor, then Roan would try and be more comfortable when speaking. He caught sight of Carmine.... Running? It was obvious to Roan straight away, she was leaving.
Roan's heart skipped a beat as he stared, but it only made him run faster. "Carmine!" he called, his legs begging for a break, and he reached her side. He ignored Toboe for the time being, looking at Carmine in disbelief. He puffed, not taking his eyes off of her. "Wh-Where are you going?" he asked, trying not to sound demanding. Worry and hurt sparkled in his eyes.

As Carmine ran,s he wondered why she was going away, and why she was so determined about it. Had she ever really loved her family, ever really been happy there? With the Dancing Stars, she'd felt welcome, especially when in the company of a certain few wolves. Wolves that she knew she wouldn't be able to say goodbye to, which was why she was leaving without a single word.
Upon hearing footsteps, sending tiny vibrations through the compact earth, she opened her eyes. Oh god, it was Toboe. She couldn't say goodbye to him, he was her best friend - this was exactly why she was trying to run away and not look back. As he cut across her path, she skidded to a halt, desperately avoiding his eye. Suddenly, the situation became a whole lot worse, as Roan arrived. She wasn't quite sure what he meant to her, but whatever it was, it was a lot.
"I have to go. I'm going home," she said, her voice choked with emotion.

Toboe's face frowned with understanding and sadness. Perhaps she found out who she really was? Maybe she remembered where she came from, what had attacked her, her old family. If she was going back to them, Toboe would understand. Seeing Roan made Toboe wonder if he should be here or not. What did Roan mean to Carmine? Were they lovers? Maybe he should leave them alone to talk? He wasn't even one hundred percent sure of what was going on. "Home? You remember?" was all Toboe asked, his voice smooth with sadness and a spark of happiness for Carmine.

Roan opened his mouth to speak when he stopped, but nothing came out. Instead, Toboe took the words right out of his mouth, speaking for him. Roan's heart raced even though he should have calmed down by now. He was happy Carmine had remembered, but she didn't need to go back, did she? The pack needed her. Roan needed her.
Roan opened his mouth again, heart sagging, but he forced a shaky smile. "I'm... Glad you remembered." he said, looking at the ground to avoid her eyes. He sighed softly, he wanted to demand why she was leaving so suddenly without a goodbye. But maybe saying goodbye would make her feel guilty, but Roan wanted to say goodbye. yet, part of him wanted to demand she stayed here, ot of selfishness.
Roan sighed again. "Why do you have to go?" he asked, looking up at her quickly.

"Yeah," Carmine said sadly, affirming Toboe's question. She shook her head sadly, eyes downcast as she wished she never had remembered. She would have been better off to be innocent and naive once more, because then she wouldn't feel torn between two different lives. She knew she couldn't have both.
She glanced up at Roan as he spoke, knowing she'd miss that voice if she left. Her ears flicked at the sound of his sigh, and she found herself holding her own breath in an effort not to let out her own fears. Echoing Roan's sigh, she turned to look at Toboe, Roan, and then the ground once more.
"I don't want to go. But it's my family... And my pack. I have to, don't I?" She replied, miserably.

Toboe shook his had quickly, his eyes unbelieving. He understood why she felt that way, but he didn't understand her words. "You don't have to go back, Carmine. You're always welcome to stay with your new family. But if you remember your birth family and you really want to go back to them, then..." The tan wolf glanced at Roan with a frown. "Then we won't be angry." He offered her a slightly sad but supportive smile and a quick wag of his tail. Ohh, poor Carmine, torn between two worlds... Just like his own sister, actually.

Again, Toboe said everything Roan wanted to say. He didn't take his eyes off of Carmine, he took in her beautiful fur and scent once more. If she really wanted to leave then so be it, but it would leave behind something that would treasure her and treat her like a princess. But Roan didn't know she was technically one.
Roan glanced back at Toboe, but nodded in agreement. "I'll be happy for you." he said, I'll try. he added mentally. Roan thought it over, he was being selfish. If Carmine wanted to go, then she could go. He smiled warmly at her, as if encouraging her.

Carmine turned, staring from Toboe, to Roan, back to Toboe and then to Roan once more. She didn't know what to do; she felt like she belonged here, with them now, but her family... Were they really her family? Who had so easily forgotten her? These kind wolves who had taken her in and treated her like one of their own - would she swap them back for those who didn't really give a damn? "If.... If I don't go now," She said carefully, strain and tension showing in her eyes as she tried to make a decision, "I never will. Then, taking a big intake of breath, she stood up, and slowly and definitely, started to walk away. In the direction of Dancing Stars. Back to Dancing Stars.
"Thank you," she whispered.

A huge grin was plastered onto to Toboe's tan face, and he watched her walking back. To where he was sure she belonged, too. He looked over at Roan with almost a congratulatory smile, and he stood up to walk back towards Dancing Stars. "I'll race you two home," he said happily, curling his tail over and taking off in a sprint home.

Roan smiled widely as he watched Carmine turn back. He hoped she was doing this because she wanted to, and not because she felt pressured by him and Toboe. He looked at Toboe, seeing his smile and a twinkle came to Roan's eye as he heard the offer of a race. He remembered way back, when Caerwyn was just a pup, and they raced... He wondered how his brother was doing now.
Snapping out of his day-dream, Roan looked up and quickly ran after Toboe and Carmine, slowing beside Carmine and he looked at her with a shy smile. "I'm glad you're staying." he admitted. Thank you.
