She chuckled, and her eyes gleamed mischieviously. She turned to walk away, her tail swishing as she disappeared into the mist. She had been in front of him then, but she circled around, using the mist to her advantage. Soon, she was behind him, and she smirked, inhaling deeply and taking in his scent. She was in the right spot.
She crouched low to the ground, crawling towards him quickly, then when she was a few yards away, she made a dash for him. She aimed for his back and put all her force on it, hoping to knock him to the ground with the force of her weight on him. She didn't bite down, injuries would not be necessary in a lesson, and she kept her claws as far away from his flesh as possible, not wanting to dig into his skin accidentally.

Toboe shivered as Malo disappeared into the depths of the white mist. It was like a horror story, where the victim knew the predator was out there, waiting for the perfect moment to strike, and as soon as the wind picked up so ominously...
"AAACK!" he yelped as he felt a weight push down on his back. He was thrown to the ground with such a force that he actually wondered if it was someone else besides Malo that had attacked him. He huddled against the ground for a second, his heart racing. He didn't know why the expected attack had scared him so much. Maybe it was just the location? Either way, he was shaking when he finally tried to throw Malo off of him, putting all of his possible effort into it.

Feeling Toboe moving beneath her, and absolutely pleased with her surprise, she hopped off and began to circle. Come now Toboe, that was simple to block. Didn't you smell me? You'll have to do better. She watched him, blue pools never moving away from him, watching his every move. Suddenly, she swerved at him, and aimed to strike his face with her paw, meanwhile using her other forelimb to beat at his neck. Be ready for anything Toboe, and expect the unexpected. Use all your senses, not just sight, to fight your enemies. She swung again, and hopped back, not breathing hard at all, and she circled again. She had much to teach him. When in an area like this, use your nose to smell your enemy and your ears to hear where they are located. Listen carefully, and you will hear the information you seek. Eyesight does you no good here, she said as she lunged for him again.

Eyesight does me no good, he remembered, concentrating hard on Malo's every movement. Her attacks were quick and simple, but hard to read, and he had a hard time dodging her pawswipes. By the time the first wave had ended he was almost completely breathless. He needed a few seconds to recouperate, so he quickly turned tail and hopped a few feet away. It was then that he perked his ears and began sniffing at the air, because Malo was now out of sight in the thick mists. He tried to focus his ears to hear her footsteps, meanwhile panting softly to catch his breath...

Malo paced slowly, watching her step carefully on the damp ground. Her paws were already dirty, and she stepped in a mud patch, making a soft squish sound as she did. She winced, realizing that if he had taken her advice, she might have just given away her position. Nonetheless, she continued to move through the mist, her nose telling her where he was and her ears saying that he hadn't moved from his location.
Now she would strike again. She crouched low, then sprung up in the air, this time in front of the young male, and she bared her teeth as she crashed down to the earth, ready to nip at his neck.

This time Toboe was mentally and physically prepared. So, as soon as he heard Malo's movement, he rolled across the ground to get away from her and quickly refooted, slightly dizzy but nonetheless, geared for the fight. He, too, bared his teeth, feeling the rush of excitement that the fight was bringing him, despite its being just a practice session. His blue eyes flashed with anticipation and he swiped a powerful pawswipe at her shoulder, perhaps a bit too forceful, he realized at once. He was getting too caught up in his instincts to actually think clearly. But when he remembered that this wasn't a serious fight, he faltered and hesitated a bit, leaving himself wide open for any retaliation Malo might send his way.

Malo pulled her head back as she realized Toboe was prepared this time, but it was too late. He hit her, and her body dropped a few inches to the ground from the power of it. She was shocked at the force behind the hit, and her face momentarily showed her surprise. She quickly straightened up however, and realizing he had some sort of confusion as he hesitated, she took this chance to charge at him, lowering her head slightly and aiming to ram him in the chest.
She was quite pleased with his defense move of rolling away from her, and the pawswipe had caught her off guard, but she was very pleased. Though she wondered why he held back. She knew he was young, and inexperienced. She figured he was like her when she was young, and she had been wild and uncontrollable. That wasn't the best thing to be when fighting to defend yourself, and possibly kill. That was how you got yourself hurt, or worse.

Woah. That was one hardcore move. Of course, he didn't have time to think about that as he was getting pushed backwards by her hard-hitting headbutt, but as he was flung against the ground, breathless, he stared up into the misty skies with a dazzled, amazed look. Malo sure was one of a kind. And this was just a practice session! She probably wasn't giving it her all! Of course she wasn't.
He groaned as he finalyl cleared his head, rolling over on his belly to try and stand. His chest felt bruised and the pain travelled into his front legs. He was done. "Holy crap! That hurt! How am I supposed to compete with you?" he hollered, a half smile of his goofy face.

||Oi, my head hurts now...|| She laughed at herself, and ignored the slow throbbing of her skull. She'd hit him a little too hard, and hard chest bone with hard skull did not mix. She hadn't expected him to be so strong. But that made her more happy. He'd be a good student in future lessons. Maybe that's what she should do with her time, train the little ones...NOT.
She looked at him, surprisingly warm, as he lay on the ground, catching his breath and looking at her like she'd just saved the world from a meteor or something. She padded up to the younger wolf and nudged him gently with her nose, pushing her body next to his and tried to help him up. Of course it hurt, you left yourself open. Part of fighting isn't just about attacking. It's about thinking too. Planning ahead, staying one step ahead of your enemy-if possible-and taking any opportunity you can for the advantage. Make sure you cover up your weak spots, but don't let your enemy know where they are.
She smiled at his last words, and chuckled at his funny smile. She had to admit, she liked this pup a lot. He had something her parents had called "spunk", and he reminded her so much of...She looked away momentarily, clearing her head as best she could. Then she turned back to answer him. Don't worry little Toboe. You'll be able to beat me soon enough. If you keep training, that is. She gave him a look, mysterious and alluring, hinting that he should train with her more. She even found herself hoping he would, which was odd for her.

He finally found his balance, thanks to Malo's help. It was strange to Toboe, but he found comfort at her close touch, and he felt at peace. He was beginning to think she was becoming something to hime like an aunt, or an older sister he could talk to about anything. He took her hint right away and his tail got to wagging. He'd train with Malo pretty much every day if he could! This was going to be so much fun. Maybe if he grew more powerful then he could impress Eyelle, too.
"Thanks, Malo. I'll do my best to learn. Part of my problem is concentration; I worry about other things during the fight..." He shrugged, an embarassed smile across his face. "So... So, should I come back soon? Where can I find you again?" he asked, slightly unsure of himself. Would the alphas disapprove of his meeting regularly with this loner? Well, if they ever found it out, he'd just have to trust that they'd be fair and listen to him.

Malo nodded, hearing what his problem was. It was just as she expected, a lack of concentration. But he'd get there soon enough, she was sure of it-with a little help of course. She gave a comforting smile to him, seeing his embarassment. It's alright young one, everyone goes through that in their first fight, real or not. Just try focusing whatever else has your attention on your opponent. And if it's anger or something, that's all the better. But don't let it fog up your mind-that's how wolves get killed.
She sat down and had begun to lick her injured shoulder when his question arose. She heard the worry in his voice, but decided to shake it off for now. She had answers to give, and she thought about where she was most of the time. She had been in the forest and liked it very much with all the shade, but the mountains called to her too, for they had spectacular views. And she had met Hood and Marilyn on Solitary Mountain. Come back anytime you want. I'm a loner, I don't have many visitors remember? But most likely you'll find me in the forest, or on either one of the mountains. You know where they are right? The Lined Cliffs are all the way on the other side of No Man's Land, and the Solitary Mountains are on the other side of these Mists. You get here again, and you'll be close. Just give a short howl and two barks and I'll be there.
She stood again, turning to walk off, then turned her head back, her blue eyes flashing as she looked Toboe up and down. Good job Toboe. You got through your first lesson. With that, she padded off, her orange and cream body disappearing in the mist.

His tail quivered with excitement. He had gotten through his first lesson, even impressing Malo, his teacher! He giggled mischeviously to himself and started striding towards home, no hesitance in his steps. He'd come back here as often as he could and would hang out with Malo, train under her, and learn all about how to defend yourself. Then he could truly call himself the protector of Dancing Stars!
