He never thought it would happen to him. It was well into spring-time and most wolves had already paired off and began to mate, but not Loch. He was on the rack of love. He had his chance with Eyelle, sweet, beautiful Eyelle, but she already had Toboe, so Loch let her go. All he wanted was for her to be as happy as possible, whether that meant being with him...or not. Then there was Vixen, one of the first wolves he met in DS. She was crazy about Loch, but the male just didn't feel those sparks. He needed to feel something more than just fondness, and he saw Vixen like a cute little sister, not a mate. He sighed, heaving his large chest as he padded through the forest, traversing a fallen tree with skill and ease.
Ho hum, he thought to himself, ears drooped toward the back of his head. Spending spring alone was going to be torture, seeing all the love-struck couples prancing about like loons at a loon party. He snorted roughly. Who needs a mate anyway? Hmph.
I do, he thought. At least I'd like one...

As Carmine softly padded through the forest, her ears flickered, taking in each and every sound. Although relaxed, she was very alert to her surroundings: not because she was hunting but because she simply enjoyed trying to understand her surroundings and the creatures within it. So, when hearing Loch's sigh, she was naturally curious. Upon glancing up, her amber orbs blinked, taking in the sight of the downtrodden looking male.
Carmine hated seeing wolves like this; she seemingly had some inbuilt sort of healing system that just wanted to comfort and cheer up other wolves when they were down. She felt some sort of compassion for Loch, even though she'd never seen him before and had no idea what was wrong with him. As her auburn paws carried her slender body towards him, she asked quietly, "What's wrong?"

Loch's amber gaze drifted upward as a small voice met his twitching ears. Across the way was a bonny-looking female, her fur the color of autumn leaves. He made a sincere attempt to smile, but his handsome features could only wince half-heartedly. He Let his gaze drop to the earth, looking at his massive feet. The female had asked him what was wrong, but howcould he tell her? He would just sound pathetic. Oh, I have no mate. Oooh, I had to let the wolf I love go and be with another male. Oh, woe is me, woe is me. Loch rolled his eyes sardonically and looked back upward. She was still there. Persistent one, aren't you? He thought to himself with an unprovoked disdain for the intruding wolf. However, if he wanted to not become a lonely hermit for the rest of his days, he'd better buck up and be nice.
"Just...Spring fever I guess, you know, unrequited love and whatnot." He shrugged as if it were nothing, just a stain on his coat. But on the inside, Loch's whole being felt as if it were alien to his body. Being alone is harder than anyone could imagine.

Three wolves padded towards the forest, their eyes gleaming happily. The twins hadn't known their friend very long, but they trusted him, and would protect him with their life. He was so sweet and naive, they wondered who much devastation he could take before he cracked, lost it and changed. Death often changed weak wolves, wolves who were too weak to resist. In many ways, Tristan was weak, but where it counted; in his heart he was strong.
Tristan's wet nose quivered delicately, dorting different wolves smells out. 'There's two wolves in the forest. Well, two that are close.' he muttered to Topaz and Quartz. Quartz nodded, and Topaz smile softly at Tristan, who smile back.
Topaz recognised Loch first, he was the wolf who had called her after Caerwyn had gone crazy. She sighed, wondering about him and Eyelle. After hearing part of the conversation, she admitted to herself that she too had spring fever, but she wasn't as desperate as some wolves. She loved Caerwyn, and she would never be able to have pups with any other male until she let go of Caerwyn which, at the moment, she wasn't strong enough to do.
'Hey.' she called softly, coming to a stop. Tristan bumped into his friend, and fell back, hitting his head. 'Oooowww....' he said, feeling a little dizzy. Quartz chuckled, and helped his friend up. [/size]

Loch turned his head, his gaze being met by three familiar faces. He smiled weakly from Topaz to Quartz to little Tristan. Nodding to each of them in return, he said, "Come to join the party, then, have you?" There was a certain air of sarcasm in his voice that was typical of the male.
Planting his rear on the sod, he looked back to Carmine. "Uhm, this is Topaz, Quartz, and Tristan" Loch thought for a moment, realizing that he didn't know her name. "And...what's your name?"
