Quartz lay floating on his back in the water, thinking about what had happened to tha pack in recent days. Topaz was miserable, because Midnight was his mate, and because he had tried to hurt her. He had changed, she'd told him, but Quartz didn't know what she ment. It wasn't like Caerwyn to try and hurt someone, to be honest. He knew he had to beliave his sister though, it wasn't like her to tell a lie.
Then he thought about Midnight, everyone's knew alpha. When Topaz was around he pretended to hate Midnight to make his sister feel better, but secretly he knew she would do a good job as alpha.
He remembered Xaka, he remembered their old lands, how beautiful they were. It made him sick to think the falling moons were living there...He hated them with such loathing he would do anything to kill just one.
He thought of his father, or rather, how he imagined him. He liked to think of his father as a brave wolf who died respectably. He wanted to think he took his death like a brute, looked danger in the eye. Ofcourse he would never know, the only wolves there were falling moons, and he would never ask them. He had heard his father was ripped to shreads by the falling moons, he had heard the gruesome stories thaty surrounded his fathers death. He hated it, he hated it all. It made him want to break down into tears, the way any wolf could do that to someone. He was going to kill every single wolf that took any piece of his father's anatomy, and all their friends! He would kill 10 falling moons personally, and he was just itching for another war!
He kicked his back legs and propelled to the bank.

Jasmyne padded up to the bank, her green pools catching sight of her old friend, Quartz. She gave a smile, seeing him floating, and remembered how they'd first met at the river, though his sister had been with him then. She sat down for a moment to watch him, curiously tilting her head to the side trying to figure out what he was thinking about. Of course, she'd never know unless she asked him.
Standing up, tail wagging slowly, she looked at him once more before speaking. You know, you're going to drown if you don't watch where you're swimming. She gave a grin and watched him awhile longer, waiting for him to speak. He seemed deep in thought, and she had never seen him like this before. It puzzled her, and she wanted to know what was wrong. Both him and Topaz had been acting strange lately.

Jasmyne's words took him by surprise. He jumped in the water and twisted around, his head going under. He opened his eyes, holding his breath. The voice was Jasmyne's, but he didn't want to go back up, it was so peaceful here...
He decided he was running out of breath, and surfaced. He saw Jasmyne at the bank and broke into a grin, he remembered her from the river.
'Hey!' he greeted her, reaching the bank and hauling himself out. He shook his coat and let the water fly off.

She watched him go under with worried eyes, then saw him resurface again. Seeing his grin, she felt reassured and waded a little into the water to meet him. When he reached the bank, she stepped out and her tail wagged at seeing someone familiar that she hadn't in a long time. She gave him a warm smile as he exited the water.
Hey Quartz! How have you been? she asked as he shook, spraying water all over her. She laughed and shook her self off, not caring about the water at all. She smiled and sat down elegantly, wrapping her tail around her paws like a cat. She hadn't talked to him in so long, she wondered if he had changed any since they'd last spoken. It was kind of funny to her how they always seemed to meet up near some body of water.

Quartz wagged his tail, shaking the last bit of water from it. 'Oh, you know, the usual. My sister nearly had a nervous breakdown because she said Caerwyn attacked her.' he used his hind leg to scratch behind his ear, 'Other than that I've been okay...I guess I've been feeling a bit lonely lately... What with Topaz all depressed, and no-one to really talk to...' he ended, taking a breath after all his taking. He blushed, annoyed with himself that he'd blathered on for so long.
'Sorry...What about you?'

A worried expression crossed her face as he spoke of Topaz and Caerwyn. That didn't sound like their alpha at all. She looked concerned. Is she alright? Is HE alright? I hope everything's okay..she was worried about her packmates, and hoped there was no internal strife.
After awhile, she perked up. Well you have me to talk to silly! And I've been good. Just wandering around lately. i can't seem to stay in one place for long, you know?

'Yeah, Topaz's is fine I think, but she can hide things really easily, and you never know what she's thinking... I don't know about Caerwyn, she said he changed, like he was completely different...I don't know whether to beliave her or not...I know she's my sister but it's not like Caerwyn to attack someone...'
His eas pricked and he smiled when she said he had her to talk to, 'Yeah, you're right...' he said slowly, thinking about it. 'And yeah, I do...' he added.
He paused, wondering how she'd take his next statement, 'I've been feeling odd lately...Like I want to find a mate but no-one there seems to understand me except Topaz...' he said softly. his ears drooping slightly.

She listened quietly, nodding slowly sometimes as he explained Topaz and Caerwyn. She really hoped everything was alright; their pack needed things to be alright, especially with rumors of yet another war beginning to surface. She smiled as he did, glad she could help her friend out, because his sister seemed distant from him now. But it was no burden to her, she'd do anything for her pack afterall.
Her ears perked as she listened to him move on, and her brows furrowed in thought and worry. She saw his ears droop, and padded over to him, resting her chin on the back of his neck gently. Don't be sad Quartz. You still have friends afterall, like me and my sisters. And there are new loners showing up a lot lately, maybe you could get to know them? Don't worry, things change you know. And if you open up a little, others besides Topaz will understand you too.
She pulled her head away, smiling warmly at her friend in the afternoon sun. She didn't want him to be sad, and she'd do anything to help him right now.

Quartz's spine tingled slightly as she touched him, he forced himself to think straight, but when he did he looked at the floor in embarresment. He nodding, knowing she was right, 'Yeah, I know, but...but I'm scared to open up to anyone...' he admited, looking up and into Jasmyne's beautiful eyes.
He wondered what it was like to have a mate, to have someone that you love and loves you back. He realised that he had Topaz, though, but he guessed it was different.
He also wondered what being a father was like. When he had pups he wanted to be the best father there ever was, he wanted his pups to have a father figure unlike him.
He tilted his head, searching Jasmyne for some hint of what she was thinking. 'I guess I have a hard time trusting people...'

She looked at him, soft green pools saddening at his change in demeanor. She didn't know how to help him, but she knew she had to try. You can start, Quartz. I said I'm here for you..It broke her heart to see her friend beaten up like this, and she wondered what was with the sadness.
Yea, she had to admit, with spring coming everyone seemed to be pairing off, and she felt alone. It made her sad, but she tried not to let it get to her. Afterall, they were barely older than a year, but of course they had those urges. She didn't even think she knew what love was, so having a mate wouldn't work for her, she knew. Neither would being a mother-speaking of which, what would her OWN mother say about it? She didn't want to know. She gave a sigh and waited for his response.

He nodded, trying not to look like a wimp, 'I know...' he said, slowly, he knew she was there for him, but he wanted a mate that was there for him, and Jasmyne was out of his league. Whatever feelings he had, he knew he would never be good enough for her.
He sighed, gazing into her emerald eyes. He felt lost in them, they seemed to tug at his soul, urging him to keep gazing at her...But he blinked, he had to, because his eyes were watering.
He looked down at his paws, shuffled them nervously then looked back up at Jasmyne, 'What about you? Have you found the 'right guy' yet?' he asked, tilting his head to the side. [/size]

She sat, thinking about all the males she had ever encountered in her life. Quartz, of course, was a wonderful she held near to her heart, and Toboe? Well, he was Eyelle's 'thing'. Loch was a handsome wolf, but she had never really talked to him much, and she heard a lot of faes were chasing after him, which just wouldn't do. There was Tessar, who she had decided wasn't all that bad. And he was good looking...WAIT! She couldn't think like that, and she shook her head to try to rid herself of the thought.
After her little fit, she went back to contemplating his question. Caerwyn, was alpha, and Midnight's mate, and she hadn't met many loners. So her list to choose from was limited. She gave a shrug, showing it was no big thing, and gave her response. No, not yet. There's no one I've seen that really has gotten my attention...
She looked away, at the water and gave a small sigh. She wished there were more males her age around, or maybe she just needed to get out more. Either way, if next spring was like this, she wouldn't be very happy.

Quartz waited while she pondered, he sat happily, listening to the lake ripple by softly. It was a peacful day, and his company was even nicer, it was a shame to waste a nice day talking about depressing things...But he almost forgot the thought when she spoke again. He chuckled, 'I would've imagined all the boys would of been chasing you!' he wasn't being sarcastic, and he would hated for it to of sounded so, but when it came out of his mouth it sounded nasty.
'I meant because you're really pretty...' he said shyly, his cheeks burning slightly.

An eyebrow was raised as he spoke, and her eyes narrowed coldly at his tone. What was his problem? Then her ears perked up, hearing his last words and the change in tone, as if he was apologizing. She gave a half smile and looked at him, her green pools softening. It was so strange, how he was acting lately. Then again, now that she thought about it, their whole pack had been going bonkers as of late.
She looked at the calm water, and how the sun reflected off of it. It was so beautiful, and she didn't want to tear her eyes away from it just yet. But, knowing she would have to give an answer, she looked back at Quartz. Thanks Quartz. But I don't know, guess they're not biting. You know the saying, there's other fish in the sea? Well what happens if you're just a really bad fisher?

Quartz looked at the ground, feeling a bit stupid. He thought about her question, maybe it was rhetorical? Maybe he shuold tell her what he thought. 'Then dive write in and catch them yourself...' he replied, tilting his head ot the side.
'Mind you, I can't speak.' he laughed soflty, glancing at the glittering waters. 'Would you like to go for a swim?' he asked, feeling a bit restless, plus it would be nice to have alugh with Jasmyne, he felt a bit boring right now.
